Ollerton: Regeneration plans for town centre revealed

Plans to transform a Nottinghamshire town centre using £20m of levelling up cash have been revealed.

The Ollerton regeneration project aims to deliver a state-of-the-art library, boutique cinema and residential, retail and hospitality spaces.

Newark and Sherwood District Council said there would also be a hub where people could access public services.

The authority said outline plans were being developed before being submitted for planning permission next year.

It hopes work will start on the site in spring 2025 and be completed by summer 2026.

Last month, the district council was awarded £20m from the government's Levelling Up Fund to regenerate Ollerton and Clipstone.

The authority said it aimed to connect Ollerton better by linking Forest Road, Rufford Avenue and Sherwood Drive in the hope of attracting more visitors into the area.

Council leader Paul Peacock said the new hub, which would offer people advice and support and adult education services, would be "vital" for the community.

"The plans will also reinvigorate the town and allow local businesses to grow and thrive," he said.

"There will be opportunities for you to have your say and what you think of the plans as they develop throughout spring and summer 2024 before submitting the proposals for planning consent.

"We are really looking forward to making these plans a reality."
