Dispersal order in place for Southampton v Millwall
PA/Peter TarryA dispersal order has been put in place by police ahead of Southampton's home match against Millwall.
The order lasts for 12 hours, starting at 10:00 GMT, and covers the city centre and parts of Woolston and Bitterne.
Police say it will help maintain public safety and allow officers to deal with any issues that could impact those attending the Championship game at 15:00.
It gives officers the power to order a person to leave the dispersal area within a specified time period and not return.
Those who refuse to comply will be committing a criminal offence and be liable for arrest.
Police will be patrolling the area during the order.
Insp Tim Williams said: "We have put this order in place to ensure that fans can enjoy the game in a safe environment and to ensure that we can respond swiftly and decisively to anyone seeking to cause disruption.
"Public safety is always our priority and I hope this dispersal order sends a clear message that we will take action against anyone whose behaviour threatens that.
"If you see our officers in the area, please don't hesitate to speak with them if you have any concerns."
