Suffolk Police launched a murder investigation after Karlie Sone was declared dead at a property in Ipswich

A man accused of murdering a woman has been told he could stand trial later this year.

Karlie Sone - also known as Karlie Day - was found unresponsive at a property on Russet Road, in Ipswich, on Tuesday morning by police officers.

The 28-year-old was declared dead a short while later before Paul Stevenson, 39, of Fletcher Road, in Ipswich, was arrested and later charged with murder.

Stevenson, who is yet to enter a plea, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court where a date for a trial, expected to last about seven days, was set for 24 September.

Judge Samantha Leigh also said a plea and trial preparation hearing would take place in May.

Suffolk Police officers had attended the property - located within a modern housing estate between Woodbridge Road and the cemetery - at 01:10 GMT.

Her death was initially described as "suspicious" before a murder investigation was launched a short while later.

A post-mortem examination concluded the cause of death needed further investigation.

Karlie Sone has been described on social media as being a "beautiful, kind soul"

Floral tributes were left at the scene and a fundraising page was launched, which has so far received more than £16,000 in donations.

A vigil will take place at Landseer Park, in the Gainsborough area of east Ipswich, on Saturday.

"Anyone who knew Karlie, or would like to come and show their respect, is welcome to join us to remember her, share stories, and honour her," a social media post said.
