Dancers were up at dawn

Morris dancers were up with the dawn chorus for a May Day celebration of dancing, music and singing in a castle.

Dartington Morris were joined by about 40 people who were invited to take part at the Norman castle in Totnes, Devon.

May Day dates back nearly 1,000 years and is celebrated at the start of the month - halfway between the spring equinox and summer solstice.

Dancer Robin Springett said: "We're here to see in the May at this wonderful site and it's very important to keep ancient English traditions alive."
