Guildford Borough Council has set out its climate and nature priorities up until 2027

A council in Surrey has set out its strategy for climate and nature until the end of the decade.

Guildford Borough Council (GBC) said the plan set out a "clear pathway" to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2030.

The strategy, developed in collaboration with neighbouring Waverley Borough Council, aims for a coordinated approach to reducing emissions, supporting nature recovery and strengthening resilience to climate impacts.

A council spokesperson said the authority wanted to "protect and enhance the natural environment for future generations".

GBC said it was including actions to be completed before 2027 in the strategy, when a new West Surrey authority was planned.

It plans to reduce carbon emissions across its operations and the wider borough, support biodiversity and restore natural habitats and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Angela Goodwin, lead councillor for environment and sustainability, said: "Tackling climate change and restoring nature are among the most important challenges we face, both globally and on a local level, and as a council, we're committed to taking decisive action.

"By working together with our communities and partners, we can build a more sustainable, resilient and thriving borough."
