Highland Council is to take over the running of a school bus service in Easter Ross.

Private operator Stagecoach said it was withdrawing from the route because of the loss of a council contract and associated vehicles.

Highland Council said its 425 service would be used by Dingwall Academy pupils who live in Alness and Evanton, and also by members of the public.

The local authority said the timetable would mirror the one currently operated by Stagecoach.

Stagecoach said it would continue to run a bus from Dingwall to Alness at 13:35 on Fridays.

Highland Council said no decisions had been made about its service beyond the summer.
