Cemetery closes due to concerns over memorials
BBCA cemetery in Nottingham has closed suddenly over concerns about the safety of memorials within the grounds.
Rock Cemetery, on the corner of Mansfield Road and Forest Road East, temporarily shut after issues were identified with several memorials.
Nottingham City Council said they required further investigation by qualified structural engineers.
The authority was unable to provide a definitive date for when the cemetery will reopen.
A spokesperson for the council added: "Public safety remains our top priority, and as a precautionary measure, access to the cemetery has been restricted until these assessments can be completed and any necessary works are carried out.
"We understand this may cause inconvenience and appreciate the public's patience and understanding as we work to ensure the site is made safe for all visitors."
The cemetery closed temporarily last year after a group of people set up camp in the grounds, before reopening three months later.
