A man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Nottingham.

Emergency services were called to a property in Ryeland Gardens, in The Meadows, shortly after 05:30 GMT on Saturday.

Coel Tainton, 24, sustained a fatal gunshot wound and died a short time later despite treatment from paramedics, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Jack Preston, 34, has been charged with murder, assault by beating of an emergency worker and a public order offence.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Det Insp Clare Gibson said: "As we announce these charges today, our thoughts firmly remain with Coel's family and friends.

"Specially trained officers are providing them with support, and this will continue.

"Our team of investigators and specialist officers have worked extremely hard over the past few days to determine the full circumstances of what happened, and I am pleased we have now been able to charge a suspect in this case."
