Essex firefighters were called to the house in Wickford Road, South Woodham Ferrers, just after midnight

A fire service is warning locals to avoid the area around a house that was on fire overnight, as water run-off has made the road hazardous.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service was called to the house in Wickford Road, South Woodham Ferrers, at 00:31 GMT.

A spokesperson said crews "have been on scene working hard to extinguish the fire throughout the night" and remained at the property on Tuesday morning.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the blaze. There have been no reported injuries.

People have been asked to avoid Wickford Road which has been left "very icy".
