Three men have appeared in court charged in connection with a drug seizure of an estimated street value of more than €10m (£8.7m).

A joint operation by the Irish Revenue Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau seized 506kg of cannabis in a raid on a property in County Louth on Friday.

The operation formed part of Operation Tara, a Garda initiative targeting drug-dealing networks.

37-year-old Graham Somers of Moscow Drive in Liverpool, 38-year-old Brian Coleman of Glasanaon Road in Finglas, Dublin and 57-year-old Alan O'Neill of Hill of Rath in Drogheda, County Louth appeared before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court on Saturday.

The men are charged with the unlawful possession of a controlled drug, namely cannabis.

They also face a further charge of possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of sale or supply.

All three men have been remanded in custody, to appear before Dundalk District Court again on Wednesday.
