Man dies in crash near Irish border

A man in his 30s has died following a car crash in County Monaghan, very close to the Irish border.

It happened at Inishammon on the road between Monaghan town and Rosslea, County Fermanagh, at about 19:30 local time on Wednesday.

The man, who the only person travelling in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicle is believed to have been involved, according to Gardaí (Irish police), who have appealed for witnesses.

The man's body has been transferred to the Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, County Meath, for a post-mortem examination.

The road remains closed.
