Free Christmas events include K-pop and sumo

Free activities for children are taking place in East Yorkshire over the Christmas holidays.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council's offer includes musical themed dance workshops, crafts, baking and sports camps, as well as outdoor adventure sessions and farm experiences.

The events, which are funded by the Department for Education's Holiday Activities and Food Programme, are primarily aimed at children aged between five and 16 who are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals.

Highlights include K-pop dance sessions, horse grooming, sumo wrestling and craft sessions.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: "There's a fantastic range of activities available right across the East Riding – from Anlaby and Bridlington to Goole and Withernsea.

"It's important that children and their families can access these fantastic, free activities in their local communities," she added.

The authority said the majority of sessions were four hours long and each child and young person could book up to four sessions for free in the Christmas holidays, subject to availability, with places booked on a first come, first served basis.
