A large German shepherd dog which bit three members of the public has been seized.

Officers were called to Clarence Road in Staple Hill, on the outskirts of Bristol, at 08:35 GMT on Tuesday, police said.

Three people who were attacked were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The dog was contained inside a garden when police arrived and has been taken in by the force while investigations continue.

Avon and Somerset Police said it was investigating an offence of a dog being dangerously out of control, adding the dog's owner was assisting them with enquiries.

German shepherds are not one of the dogs banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Neighbourhood inspector Barny Mabbett said: "Incidents like this are rare and, fortunately on this occasion, the members of the public involved sustained only minor injuries."

He added: "This serves as an important reminder for dog owners to ensure their pets are properly secured within their premises and to consider the use of muzzles if there are any concerns about how a dog may react around other animals or members of the public."
