The explosion site where terraced houses once stood on Eden Street is up for auction

The site of a gas explosion that destroyed a terraced house and damaged five others in Derby has been put up for auction.

The plot of land stands in the middle of a row of three terraced houses that were demolished after the blast in Eden Street in Alvaston, on 10 June.

Paul Solway has since admitted causing the explosion and pleaded guilty to six counts of damaging property, being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

The address of 78 Eden Street will go under the hammer on 10 March with a guide price of £22,000.

Neighbour Beverley Richardson is still having her home repaired from the blast.

"The auction is the start of new beginnings," said the 65-year-old.

"To come out my front door and actually see something new there, it would make me so happy, instead of looking at piles of dirt and rubble.

"People have lost a lot as well because of the explosion, people's belongings are still there, it's not nice."
