A wedding ring and an engagement ring were stolen from the house in High Littleton, Somerset

Thieves have stolen a wedding ring belonging to a widower's late wife during a burglary in Somerset.

The break-in happened between 17:00 GMT and 19:15 on 13 January at a property in High Littleton, Avon and Somerset Police said.

The householder, a man in his 70s, returned home to find thieves had forced entry to his home and stolen items including a distinctive wide-band wedding ring with an engraved geometric design.

An engagement ring, cufflinks, shirt studs, a tie pin and gold chains were also stolen, and police said they were keen to hear from pawn shops and jewellers who may have been offered the items for sale.

Police said numerous enquiries have been carried out by officers and the investigation continues.
