A new bus service will be launched in April linking several towns and villages with Bristol Airport.

From 5 April, the A2 service will travel from Portishead to Walton-in-Gordano, Clevedon, Tickenham, Nailsea, Backwell and Bristol Airport.

First Bus said the buses would run up to every hour, 24 hours a day.

Last year, Bristol Airport opened a new £60m transport hub to accommodate more buses travelling there.

The hub project took more than two years to complete and is part of a wider £400m "airport transformation programme" to improve transport links.

Currently only about 15% of airport customers arrive at the site by bus.

The airport in North Somerset is the largest in the UK without a mass transit link. and the Mayor of the West of England recently said new links to the airport could include bendy buses, an electric-powered tram or a light railway.

Other services

First Bus also said there will be a new service connecting Bristol city centre with Kingswood and Southmead, providing new direct links from St George to the hospital for the first time.

Service 18 will run hourly between Monday and Saturday during the day.

In Bath, the new 175 service will link Bath bus station with Peasedown St John.

A full list of new services is available on the First Bristol, Bath and the West website.
