Fundraiser for 'beloved' son killed during Ramadan
HandoutA charity fundraiser has been started in memory of a "beloved" teenager stabbed to death outside a mosque.
Zeeshan Afzal, 18, was discovered with serious injuries on Oldbury Road in Smethwick, West Midlands, following disorder on Friday evening. He died shortly afterwards.
Family members have set up an appeal in his memory, which has raised more than £9,000. In an online tribute, his family said of him: "His kindness, generosity, and laughter touched everyone who knew him.
"To lose him during Ramadan has been an indescribable pain," it read.
"We are raising funds in his name to serve as sadaqah jariyah — a source of continuous reward for him in his grave and a means of light for him in the hereafter."
A 19-year-old and a 20-year-old were also taken to hospital after violence outside the building on Oldbury Road in Smethwick just before 21:00 GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
Detectives are reviewing CCTV already gathered as they "seek to establish why this happened and who was involved", West Midlands Police said.
The force added that there was nothing to suggest the stabbing was racially or religiously aggravated.
