A man has been left with serious injuries after being glassed in Derby city centre.

Derbyshire Police said they were called to reports of the assault in Sadler Gate, shortly after 04.30 GMT on Saturday.

They said a man was hit with a glass and suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A man in his 20s was arrested 90 minutes later in the Alvaston area of the city on suspicion of GBH. He remains in police custody.

A scene that was put in place by officers in Sadler Gate has now been removed.
