'Families should be supported through SEND reforms'
Shariqua Ahmed/BBCA Peterborough charity said parents should be supported through changes to the special education needs and disabilities (SEND) system.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson visited Ormiston Bushfield Academy in Peterborough and announced £4bn of funding over the next three years aimed at making mainstream schools more inclusive.
Louise Ravenscroft, from Family Voice, said she agreed "the system needs change or overhaul" but that this must be handled "carefully".
'Customer found £18,000 of trading cards in his loft'
Danny Fullbrook/BBCTrading card collecting has surged in popularity, with some people unknowingly storing collections worth thousands of pounds in their homes, a shop owner has said.
Juliano Scibelli, who runs Collectors Corner in Peterborough, said enthusiasts from all over the UK travel to his shop in Orton Southgate. He added that some people were unaware of the value of their cards.
He recalled: "A guy contacted me about a month ago and sent pictures of the stuff from his loft. It was unbelievable - he had all the stuff we'd consider expensive. Altogether it came to roughly £18,000. He did not want to sell it yet, though."
Ambulance charity given £25,000 for staff garden
East of England Ambulance CharityThe East of England Ambulance Service Charity has been awarded about £25,000 to create a wellbeing garden for staff.
The charity said the space, which would be built at the service's station in Peterborough, would provide a much-needed sanctuary for employees to support their mental health and wellbeing.
City road reopened after three-month closure
Kirsty KnightA road closure described as "horrific" by people living in Orton Longueville and Orton Waterville has reopened after three months.
A part of Goldhay Way, near Paynels, Peterborough, was shut by Anglian Water in December for emergency sewage works. The company said it had been a "complicated engineering job".
Resident Gemma Anne said the closure had meant "every journey became a mission".
Hospital art pays tribute to baby loss families
NHS North West AngliaA sculpture has been installed outside a hospital in tribute to families impacted by baby loss.
Put in place outside the women's and children's unit at Peterborough City Hospital, the handcrafted butterfly is made of metal.
The idea for the sculpture was proposed by midwife Afton Cope, whose baby, Charlie, died following a complicated pregnancy in 2023.
The week in politics
Peterborough City CouncilCouncillors signed off on Peterborough City Council's 2026-27 budget, approving a 4.99% rise in council tax. It will mean the annual council tax rate for Band D properties will rise to £1,836.72, an increase of £87.30 - an extra £1.68 per week.
Upgrades to Lincoln Road in Millfield costing £5.8m were completed ahead of schedule. New cycle stands, seating and a new signalised crossing were installed and welcomed by local business owners.
Meanwhile, landlords in the city were told to check if their properties require licences after the council launched a scheme aimed at "improving standards" in houses of multiple occupation (HMOs). Property owners have until 26 April to comply or could face enforcement action.
Councillors heard plans for a new swimming pool in Peterborough were on track for it to open in September 2028. Plans for a new creative and performing arts hub in Yaxley also took a step forward after owner Live @ The Academy CIC applied for an alcohol licence.
The week in sport
Harry Leonard scored twice as Peterborough United came from behind to draw 3-3 with Exeter in League One. Posh took the lead with 17-year-old Patryk Sykut getting his first goal for the club. Posh are 12th in the table, seven points away from the play-off places.
Peterborough Sports are now six games without a win after a 4-1 defeat against Bedford Town. Sports are now just a point above the National League North relegation zone.
Peterborough United Women are back in second place in the Division One Midlands after drawing 0-0 with Leafield Athletic. Jake Poole's side are just one point behind Boldmere St Michaels with two games in hand.
Peterborough Phantoms booked their place in the end of season playoffs with back-to-back wins over the Bristol Pitbulls. Ashley Tait's side are third in the National Ice Hockey League standings.
