Order renewed to tackle anti-social behaviour
BBCA public space protection order (PSPO) has been renewed in an area of Kent to help tackle anti-social behaviour.
Ashford Borough Council has renewed the order for Ashford Urban, which includes the area around Ashford town centre and south Ashford.
The PSPO has been amended to cover new restrictions, including being in possession of a catapult or slingshot and riding an e-scooter or e-bike, and anyone in breach can be prosecuted or issued a £100 fixed penalty notice.
Katrina Giles, the council's portfolio holder for communities and health, said the amendments were "in line with current trends, data and patterns that our enforcement and community safety teams along with Kent Police are facing".
The order also aims to address street drinking and anti-social use of vehicles, the council said.
Giles added: "This order sends out a clear message that certain behaviours will not be tolerated."
The previous PSPO for Ashford Urban was introduced in December 2023.
