A 68-year-old town clock which had been in poor condition has been fully restored.

Saltburn clock tower was originally commissioned by the Saltburn Rotary Club and handed to the town in 1958.

Inspections found the original mechanisms and timber of the clock needed replacing, with planning approval granted in August 2025.

Councillor Carrie Richardson, deputy leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council, said it was "wonderful" to see the clock restored.

She said: "I want to extend a huge thank you to everyone in our team for their hard work and dedication throughout this project.

"The refurbishment has been delivered using the council's planned capital investment, and it is wonderful to see this much-loved landmark restored for the community."

Workers have successfully installed the restored clock

In December 2025, the top section of the clock was removed by a specialist contractor for a full restoration and the installation of upgraded LED lighting.

The refurbished clock has been reinstated, switched on and successfully tested.

A small storyboard chronicling the project to restore the clock is available at Saltburn Library.
