Plans have been lodged for a new pedestrian and cycle gate at a York factory.

Nestlé UK Ltd has submitted an application to improve access to their site from Wigginton Road.

A new cycle shelter would also be installed to double the number of spaces available and a pedestrian walkway would be moved.

The company said the proposed works would help to promote sustainable and active travel to and from the site.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, changes would see the number of cycle spaces doubled from 20 to 40.

Seventeen new spaces for motorcycles would also be created, along with eight new parking spaces.

A turnstile and gate would be installed to allow access to the car park from Wigginton Road.

Plans stated the works would see the layout of the car park reconfigured to prioritise cycling.

They added a cycling route within the car park would connect to the one on Wigginton Road and the new gate would improve safety for walkers and cyclists.

The application stated: "This proposal aims to promote more active travel to the site through enhancing the access for both pedestrian and cyclists and providing improved designated cycle parking and access paths."
