Police have closed part of Cavendish Road following the discovery

Police closed a road following the discovery of a suspected unexploded shell in the garden of a house in Nottinghamshire.

Cavendish Road in Carlton was closed, between the junctions of Highgate Close and Wheldon Avenue, and a cordon put in place, Nottinghamshire Police said on Monday.

The force added an explosive ordnance disposal team had been called to "safely dispose of the item".

People were advised to avoid the area but following the all-clear from specialist teams, the road reopened just before 12:30 GMT.
