Morning commuters faced long delays after crashes on four motorways.

National Highways said parts of the M6 were shut northbound between junctions 32 and 33, south of Lancaster, after a crash at 23:30 GMT on Sunday.

Two teenagers were left seriously injured after the crash between two lorries and a car. National Highways said the M6 fully re-opened after 11:00.

There were also problems on stretches of the M60, M62 and M56, but these were also later cleared.

Greater Manchester Police said one man was seriously injured in the 08:30 crash on the M60 in Stockport.

Parts of the motorway were closed for more than three hours after the crash between two cars. It re-opened before midday.

One lane had been closed on the M56 eastbound from junction 9 in Lymm, Cheshire, and junction 7 for Bowdon, Greater Manchester.

A lane had also been shut off on the M62 eastbound at junction 22 for Rishworth Moor. Both of carriageways were cleared by 09:00.
