Physiotherapist Rhys John and Becky Foulkes-Doody said they would like the equipment to be returned so it can be reused by others

Former patients are being urged to return walking frames, sticks and crutches as part of a new reuse service by hospital officials.

The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust is aiming to cut waste and make it quicker for existing patients to access their equipment.

"Walking aids are specifically designed to be durable and can serve many people over their lifetime," said physiotherapist Becky Foulkes-Doody, from the trust.

"By returning them, patients who have already seen the benefits will play their part in helping others to walk again."

Items accepted for reuse include wheeled walking frames, elbow crutches, walking sticks and gutter frames, a hospital trust spokesperson said.

The items can be returned to the outpatient physiotherapy department at Leighton Hospital, Crewe, from 08:00 to 60:00 GMT, Monday to Friday.
