GP surgery to shut after registration cancelled
GoogleA GP surgery in Nuneaton will close following regulatory action and issues with its premises.
Whitestone Surgery was suspended from treating patients in 2024 after the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated its services as inadequate, and a caretaker was brought in to run the surgery while improvements were made.
NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) said on Monday that the CQC registration with the surgery had now been cancelled and the existing GP contract could not continue.
The surgery will shut on Friday 24 April and patients will need to register with another practice by 23 April, or will be automatically allocated another GP.
The ICB said it worked with NHS partners and local GP practices to explore whether services could continue at the site, or elsewhere nearby.
But when the property owner was contacted, they were unable to assure that the surgery premises would continue to be available, the ICB said.
After a "detailed assessment", it said it had concluded the current premises could not be secured for long-term clinical use and no suitable alternative accommodation was available locally.
A spokesperson said all GP practices in the area were currently accepting new patients.
They said: "Patients are encouraged to register as soon as possible, particularly if they take regular medication, or have ongoing or long-term health conditions.
"Once registered, medical records will transfer automatically to the new practice.
"If patients do not choose a new GP by 23 April 2026, they will be automatically registered with a local practice to ensure continued access to care."
Dedicated staff will be available at Whitestone Surgery between 9 March and 20 March to help patients complete registration forms and answer questions.
Patients can also register online via the NHS website or the NHS App.
The ICB added: "We understand this news may be concerning and would like to reassure patients that no one will be left without a GP, and support is available throughout the transition.
"Existing appointments at Whitestone Surgery should still be attended as planned until the closure date."
