The A127 in Essex was shut for more than four hours due to concerns for a person's welfare.

Police closed the westbound carriageway at Rayleigh Weir earlier and warned of extensive delays for motorists travelling towards Southend-on-Sea.

Essex Police said Rayleigh High Street and Rayleigh Road were also "severely impacted" by traffic.

The force urged motorists to avoid the area before the road was reopened at 12:45 GMT.
