The A46 near Bath to be closed overnight
GoogleA busy road that links the M4 motorway to the city of Bath will be closed overnight for two months as part of a £6m package of improvements.
The A46 will be closed in both directions between the Cold Ashton and London Road roundabouts from 20:00 to 06:00 GMT Monday to Friday from 18 January to 20 March.
There will also be lane closures on the three-lane section of the A46 at Charmy Down over the same period.
National Highways, said about 20,000 drivers use the route daily so it is "essential" that improvements are made.
National HighwaysThe multi-million-pound investment in the A46 includes a new road surface, better signage and drainage to prevent flooding.
Upgraded chevron signs will also be installed at Hartley Bends in a bid to improve road safety.
National Highways Route Manager Sean Walsh, said: "More than 20,000 drivers use this route every day - so it's essential we continue to provide the essential maintenance and upgrades needed to make sure journeys remain safe and reliable."
Survey work will begin on 18 January with drainage improvements at Four Winds Farm, and resurfacing at Hartley Bends being carried out later in the year.
Signed diversions will be in place both north and southbound and road users are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.
