Properties in Park Barn and Westborough could see improvements under a council scheme

Council homes could be improved with better energy efficiency and access as part of a new programme of upgrades.

Guildford Borough Council said it would look to improve homes and community spaces in Westborough and Park Barn, including potentially redeveloping parts of the area and public spaces.

The plans come as about 35 houses have been affected by subsidence because of clay in the ground, meaning they cannot be lived in.

Council leader Julia McShane added: "We believe everyone deserves a home they can be proud of – one that is warm, secure, energy efficient, well maintained, and able to support residents and their families at every stage of life."

She added: "No decisions have been made yet. We are starting a meaningful conversation with residents to understand what matters most to them.

"By working together and investing in our communities, we can ensure that local people have access to the high-quality affordable homes they need."

A consultation on the plans will be launched with residents in the coming months and an engagement group will be set up to help steer the plans, the council added.

Residents interested in being involved in the engagement group have been asked to contact the council's Better Homes programme.
