The Isle of Man's Mountain Road has reopened after a seven-hour closure due to snow and high winds.

The A18 was shut between Ramsey and the Creg Ny Baa from about 04:30 GMT due to the deteriorating conditions.

The Department of Infrastructure said crews had spent the morning clearing the road with snow ploughs and re-salting the carriageway.

A yellow weather warning for hill snow had been put in place by Ronaldsway Met Office until 08:00.

The road was closed following snowfall overnight

Urging people to "drive carefully", the department said while conditions had "improved" some snow remained on the road.

However, that was expected to "dissipate quite quickly", it added.

The Mountain Road is a busy commuter route linking the Manx capital with the north of the island.

The closure follows several days of cancellations and delays to Isle of Man Steam Packet Company ferry services between Douglas and Heysham as the island continued to be hit by gales.
