A ferry service has been suspended after one of its landings was damaged in Storm Chandra.

The Shields Ferry, which runs across the River Tyne between North Shields and South Shields, will remain closed until urgent structural repairs are completed.

Damage to the north landing occurred on Tuesday and operator Nexus said the temporary closure is a precautionary measure.

A bus replacement is operating to and from each landing and ferry tickets are being accepted on Metro services.
