A Grade II listed kebab house is set to be demolished more than a year after it was damaged in a fire.

Temporary traffic management will be in place on Northgate Street in Devizes from 7 April as work begins to demolish the shop which was largely destroyed in the blaze in November 2024.

Planning permission to demolish the building was granted by Wiltshire Council in January after delays due to issues with the property's listed building status.

Council leader Ian Thorn said the work marked "an important step forward".

He said: "We thank residents and businesses for bearing with us throughout what has been a very complex situation, particularly as the delays were outside the council's control."

Thorn said the council's powers had been limited because the building was privately owned.

"Our priority throughout has been to keep people safe while keeping the road as open as possible within the constraints of the structural risks," Thorn said.

The council said temporary traffic management would be in place to allow the work to be carried out safely and to keep the road as open as possible.

"We appreciate the continued patience shown by local businesses and the community," Thorn said.
