Man bailed as part of 2023 murder investigation
Leicestershire PoliceA man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of another man more than two years ago has been bailed.
Matthew Schofield, 34, died in the early hours of 11 June 2023, after being found unresponsive in Belgrave Road, Leicester, following an assault.
On Thursday, Leicestershire Police arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of murder - he had previously been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
The arrested man has now been released on bail pending further inquiries, the force said.
A total of 19 people have so far been arrested in connection with the investigation, and police said 14 people remained suspects, but nobody has ever been charged.
The force said work continued to establish the full circumstances of Schofield's death and identify the people involved in the attack.
Det Insp Lorna Granville, senior investigating officer, said: "We want to reassure Matthew's family and the public that this investigation remains active.
"We are continuing to pursue all lines of inquiry as new evidence comes to light.
"Establishing who was involved in Matthew's death is vital so that those people can be brought to justice."
