New arrest made in 2023 murder investigation

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder by detectives investigating the death of a 34-year-old man more than two years ago.

Matthew Schofield died in the early hours of 11 June 2023, after being found unresponsive in Belgrave Road, Leicester, following an assault.

Leicestershire Police said a 23-year-old man, who was previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, had been further arrested on suspicion of murder.

A total of 19 people have so far been arrested in connection with the investigation, and police said 14 people remained suspects, but nobody has ever been charged.

The force said work had continued to establish the full circumstances of Schofield's death and identify the people involved in the attack.

Det Insp Lorna Granville, senior investigating officer, said: "We want to reassure Matthew's family and the public that this investigation remains active.

"We are continuing to pursue all lines of inquiry as new evidence comes to light.

"Establishing who was involved in Matthew's death is vital so that those people can be brought to justice."
