A man is in hospital for treatment to serious burns after a flat fire in Leicester city centre.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Church Gate at about 02:50 GMT on Friday.

Part of the area was cordoned off by Leicestershire Police while the blaze was dealt with through the morning.

A force spokesman said its officers were working with the fire service "to establish the circumstances of what happened and the cause of the fire".
