Drivers including those using the M42 and M6 Toll are being warned part of a main road will be closed for a week for HS2 engineering works.

The A446 Lichfield Road, east of Water Orton, in Coleshill, Warwickshire, which connects to junction nine of the M42, will be shut in both directions from 00:00 GMT on Monday to 06:00 GMT on 2 March.

The works include installing sections of the Water Orton viaducts over the road, as well as lifting concrete sections into place with a crane, HS2 Ltd said.

Diversions are due to be in place throughout the closure, with bus routes diverted and access maintained for businesses and residents, a spokesperson added.

Road closures will be in place from the junction of Gorsey Lane to the junction with Marsh Lane, including Watton Lane, just south of the A446's junction with the M42 and not far from the M6 Toll.

The M6 Toll runs from the M6 in Staffordshire, near Wolverhampton and Cannock, past Sutton Coldfield, through to the M6 and M42 near Coleshill.

Gilson Road will remain open but under two-way lights, with Watton Lane closed from the junction of Gilson Road to the junction of the A446 Lichfield Road during the works, an HS2 spokesperson said.

Two subsequent closures, set to take place overnight, were also planned for 9 March and 14 March, HS2 said.

Further dates for the works were also scheduled for next month as a contingency, if needed, due to weather conditions or delays, their spokesperson added.
