Snowboarding commentator Tim Warwood says covering the Winter Olympics on the BBC is a dream job for him, after falling in love with the sport 30 years ago.

The British snowboard slalom champion said: "When they decided to build the snowdome in Tamworth, I asked if I could work there, it was my first job [and now] to still be involved in a sport I love is amazing."

Sutton Coldfield's Warwood - along with Ed Leigh - has been reporting on skiing and snowboarding throughout the event, including on Team GB's gold in the mixed team snowboard cross.

Warwood said the level of competition at this year's event was "phenomenal, both across the women's and men's".

While working at the snowdome in the Staffordshire town, Warwood said he very quickly fell in love with the sport despite not knowing what he wanted to do after leaving school.

"I wasn't a brilliant student and I didn't know what I was going to do leaving school," he added.

"I remember my careers advisor saying to me 'are you going to give out skis for the rest of your life?' But I just had to say 'I don't know but I know that I love it more than I've ever loved anything else'," he said.

The former professional snowboarder spent his summers dismantling pallets and making shower frames in Aldridge to fund his winter seasons so he could compete.

"Once the jumps got too big and I got a little bit scared, I hung up the boots and took over to do commentary," he said.

"Now here I am commentating on the biggest event in the world, I'm very lucky to be doing a dream job.

"Snowboarding stopped me from kicking around a street corner and being naughty."
