National Highways says the closure affects lane one of the westbound carriageway, between junctions 36 and 37

One lane of the M62 Ouse Bridge has been closed after engineers identified damage to a bridge joint.

National Highways said the closure affected lane one of the westbound carriageway, between junctions 36 and 37, and that work was expected to be completed on the weekend of 13 and 14 December.

"As a precautionary measure, and to prevent further deterioration, this lane will be closed until the joint has been replaced," a spokesperson said.

"While we are committed to carrying out this work at the earliest opportunity, it requires specialist engineering equipment which isn't immediately available."

According to National Highways, the rubber bellows, which absorb vibration, were damaged, meaning the joint needed to be replaced.

It said it was a different issue from the one experienced in June, which was linked to a specific fault with new bolts.

Repairs to the bridge first started in March 2022 after eight damaged joints across both carriageways were found to need replacing.
