Lincoln shop sells 10km of velvet ribbon in viral craze

A social media trend has seen a small Lincolnshire shop sell more than 6 miles (10km) of velvet ribbon.

A TikTok and Instagram craze which sees users create "paper chains" has triggered demand for the material to make Christmas decorations.

Josie Rossington owner of independent gift store Follie in Lincoln said orders for the ribbon had flooded in from across the UK.

"It has gone a bit bonkers," she admitted.

Ms Rossington said the amount she had has sold over the last few weeks would stretch back and forth across the Humber Bridge five times.

She only started selling the velvet strips last year but has now attracted customers from London, Cornwall and Scotland.

"Everyone wants ribbon for their wreaths," she said.

"There's a craze on Instagram and TikTok at the minute of people making velvet ribbon paper chains. It's all gone bonkers because of that."
