A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a drive-by shooting on Christmas Day.

A 20-year-old man was left in a critical condition after being shot in the chest just before 23:30 GMT on 25 December on Wilfred Drive in Darnall, Sheffield, according to South Yorkshire Police.

Raheel Mahmood, 23, of Elmham Road, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Saturday charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life or allow another to do so.

He was remanded into custody until a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on 16 February.
