Brother of missing murder suspect jailed
South Yorkshire PoliceThe brother of a murder suspect has been jailed after helping him flee the country.
Adam Iqbal, 27, travelled with his brother, murder suspect Danyal Iqbal, to an airport hours after victim Hamza Mohammed was assaulted in Sheffield in June 2024.
He also provided travel advice to his brother, who is still being sought, South Yorkshire Police said.
At Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday Iqbal, whose address was given as HMP Humber, pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.
Mohammed, 23, was found with a serious head injury, after police were called to an incident at a takeaway on Staniforth Road in Darnall on 8 June 2024.
He was taken to hospital where he died two days later.
South Yorkshire PoliceDanyal Iqbal, 21, previously of Popple Street in Sheffield, was charged with Mohammed's murder, but was absent from a hearing at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on 15 September 2025.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "Our inquiries to locate Danyal Iqbal continue. If you see him, please call 999 immediately."
