Plans for new Urgent Treatment Centre announced
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS TrustPlans for a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at a hospital in Surrey have been announced.
Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust said that East Surrey Hospital in Redhill had an emergency department and a same day emergency care unit, but was one of only a handful of trusts in the region without a co-located UTC.
The UTC will be based next to the emergency department and will assess patients who attend with non-life-threatening emergencies.
The trust said it would be able to provide "faster diagnosis, assessment and treatment in one place".
The project has been funded by an £8.6m investment from NHS England.
Subject to approval, construction of the new UTC is expected to begin in the summer, with the site expected to open in the second half of 2027.
Karen Breen, chief operating officer at the trust, said: "In line with the wider NHS 10-year plan to expand same day emergency care services, it's going to be a fantastic way to improve patient experience."
