The Soviet 'Atlantis' lost under water

As part of Soviet efforts to prove the superiority of the socialist system over capitalism, the USSR had a strong agenda for building an advanced, industrial economy. But many of these ambitious projects ordered by Joseph Stalin had catastrophic consequences.

In Soviet Ukraine, Stalin’s instructions sent nearly 200 settlements under water. The memory of the forced resettlement and the destruction of their homes still haunts the survivors 70 years on.
