Guernsey Party: Deputy Chris Le Tissier resigns before suspension vote

A Guernsey politician has resigned from his party ahead of a vote on a possible year-long suspension without pay.

Deputy Chris Le Tissier stood down from the Guernsey Party after being found to have broken the States of Guernsey code of conduct earlier this year.

He was elected as one of six first-time deputies who stood for the new political party in 2020.

The code of conduct complaint followed his use of a Twitter account to make anonymous comments.

Mr Le Tissier has admitted using a pseudonym online.

States members will vote on the suspension on 14 July.

In March, a code of conduct panel recommended he be expelled.

However, a new panel subsequently advised the year-long suspension following an appeal of the earlier verdict.

Mr Le Tissier remains a serving member of the States, but has been suspended from his roles on the Committee for Home Affairs and the Development and Planning Authority indefinitely.

He was initially suspended by the Guernsey Party for six months.
