BBC Radio Manchester listeners have their say about Burnham's thwarted Westminster ambitions

BBC Radio Manchester listeners have had their say about Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham being blocked from standing as Labour's candidate in the forthcoming Gorton and Denton by-election.

Under his party's rules, as a directly elected mayor, Burnham had to seek permission from Labour's ruling National Executive Committee (NEC) to put his name forward as a candidate.

This was denied on Sunday, a move that could anger Labour MPs supportive of Burnham potentially challenging Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for the party leadership.

Only MPs can become Labour's leader.
