Archive: Speed skating championships on frozen fen
Archive video showed the British Speed Skating Championships being held on a frozen fen 75 years ago.
Hundreds of people gathered to watch the action at Bury Fen in Cambridgeshire on 3 January 1951.
The silent, black and white newsreel footage begins with a caption announcing it was a "fine day for the race".
Participants are seen skating at high-speed along tracks in the ice, with BBC archive records noting George Welham won the main event, the Duddlestone Cup race over 4 miles (6.5km).
