Watch: Unlicensed driver wipes out traffic lights

A 20-year-old has been banned from driving for 18 months after he crashed his car into a set of traffic lights during a police chase.

The man, from Eastgate in Peterborough, was driving a black Volkswagen Golf in Star Road in the city, at about 01:30 BST on 9 August when officers instructed him to stop.

He accelerated away, narrowly missing other motorists, before crashing into a set of traffic lights at the junction of Storeys Bar Road and Vicarage Farm Road. At the time of his arrest, officers found he only had a provisional licence and was not insured.

He was also fined £120, after admitting failing to stop, driving without a licence or insurance, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and possession of cannabis.
