Cat freed from tree by Stoke-on-Trent firefighters

A young cat has been freed by firefighters after getting stuck up a 50ft tree for more than two days.

One-year-old Moonie was in distress high up in the tree in Stoke-on-Trent.

She was reunited with her owner following the rescue by city firefighters who used their ladder to get her in Foley Street, Longton.

Although she wanted to hide away for some peace after her two-and-a-half day adventure, Moonie should be fine, the RSPCA said.

Owners are encouraged to give their cats 24 hours to come down from trees, the animal welfare charity said, as quite often they are not actually trapped.

People can try to tempt their pets down with smelly treats, or by warming food slightly to increase its odour.

"This poor cat was understandably very frightened and could be heard to be in distress," said deputy chief inspector Caren Goodman-James.

"She had been trapped up there for two days and clearly was unable to make her way down safely."
