'Black cloud' visible as car fire shuts Bramcote road near A52

A Nottinghamshire road was shut for more than an hour while a car fire was brought under control.

Crews were called to Derby Road, Bramcote, at 06:31 BST on Saturday after a black BMW car erupted into flames.

No injuries were reported, said Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters based in Stapleford said a "dirty black cloud" of smoke was visible as they left the station.

Wearing breathing kit and assisted by thermal imaging equipment, the crew used high pressure hoses to put out the fire.

The scene, near to the Sherwin Island of the A52, was left in the hands of Nottinghamshire Police.

A spokesperson for Stapleford Fire Station apologised for the disruption caused by the closure, adding: "We thank you and our partners such as (bus operator) Trent Barton for your patience and understanding."
