Man admits vandalising Nottingham's Robin Hood statue

A man has admitted spraying graffiti on a statue of Robin Hood.

White paint was sprayed on the 7ft (2.1m) sculpture of the outlaw, near the gates of Nottingham Castle, on 28 September.

Nottinghamshire Police said a suspect was identified from CCTV and confessed to committing criminal damage after voluntarily attending a police station earlier this month.

The 49-year-old told officers he regretted his actions.

The force, which has not named the man, said he was issued with a community resolution order after explaining he was upset at the time, having lost his tenancy agreement.

The paint was cleaned off the statue by council workers the following day.

PC Andrew Finch said: "This was an act of mindless vandalism on one of Nottingham's best-loved monuments.

"Criminal damage will not be tolerated and I am pleased the offender has taken responsibility for his actions."
